is a professional with more than 25 years of experience in the building, design and development fields including experience as a construction laborer, environmental engineer, real estate consultant and housing developer. Peter W. Smith, Partner
is a professional with more than 30 years of experience working in the Boston development community. During this time, Peter has successfully developed / repositioned numerous buildings/communities in urban neighborhoods on the verge of renewal as well as suburban and ex-urban locations where quality and sensitivity to the natural environmental are crucial. Peter’s success is grounded in his ability to understand the traditional, as well as the intangible, elements that create value. Depending on the context, this value is measured in financial return as well as the market momentum/community confidence that is realized by a well conceived and well executed project. With deep experience developing market, affordable and mixed-income housing, Peter has unique experience utilizing innovative public and private financing techniques from the structuring and syndication of Tax Credits (New Market, Historic, Low Income) to the ability to communicate the unique requirements and limitations of combining private, local, state or federal funding sources.
Peter’s straight ahead approach and sensitivity to the competing motivations of the various parties involved in the development process allow him to be very effective dealing with community boards and the entitlements process. Beyond acquisition, approvals and financial structuring, Peter is able to continually articulate the central vision and purpose for a development amidst the very technical details and numerous consultants involved in the real estate process. For this reason, Peter is often called upon to provide perspective to community based organizations that lack in-house technical capacity as well as to regional development entities that are beginning a new strategic initiative.
Peter is a resident of Dedham where he lives with his wife Catherine.
